NSW Opposition Leader Jodi McKay says she believes there is “a different standard for an MP” following NSW Art Minister Don Harwin’s resignation after he was caught breaking social distancing rules. Mr Harwin was fined $1,000 and resigned from his position after being caught staying at his second property on the NSW Central Coast, breaching public health orders designed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Ms McKay said “there is a standard of behaviour that is expected for ministers of the crown and quite obviously that standard of behaviour has been breached”.
“I think every MP should be in their home right now and abiding by those rules – and to make sure they are doing the right thing,” she said.
“I think certainly that people can learn from this and understand the breach that did occur, and I would hope that the police commissioner may give us more information in regard to that.”
