The World Bank is an international financial institution that provides loans and grants to the governments of poorer countries for the purpose of pursuing their projects. The World Bank has decided to give $ 1.9 billion to 25 countries to help them battle the COVID-19 pandemic. Plus new operations are already being implemented in around 40 countries to help with COVID-19. Out of the $ 1.9 billion the largest chunk of the emergency financial assistance has gone to India On Thursday 2nd April, the World Bank approved a $ 1-billion emergency financing for India to tackle the coronavirus outbreak, which has claimed 76 lives and infected 2,500 others in the country. They said that, These funds will support better screening, contact tracing, and laboratory diagnostics; procure personal protective equipment; and set up new isolation wards,"
The World Bank also approved USD 200 million for Pakistan, USD 100 million for Afghanistan, USD 7.3 million for Maldives and USD 128.6 million for Sri Lanka.
